Phonetic Formatter is designed to be simple and intuitive. Here's how to get started:
Basic Usage
- Open the app and you'll see a text input area
- Paste or type your English text into the input field
- Tap the "Generate" button to convert your text to phonetic transcription
- The results will appear below, showing the original text and phonetic transcription line by line
- Use the "Copy" button to copy the results to your clipboard
Note: Free users can convert up to 400 words per conversion and have 1 generation per day. Pro users have unlimited daily generations and can convert up to 6,000 words per conversion.
Exporting Results
Pro users can export their results in multiple formats:
- TXT: Plain text format, perfect for simple documents
- DOCX: Microsoft Word format, ideal for lesson plans and documents
- PDF: Portable document format, great for sharing and printing
To export, tap the "Export" button and choose your preferred format from the share sheet.
Note: Available formats may vary depending on your device and installed apps.

What is the difference between Free and Pro?
The Free version allows you to convert up to 400 words per conversion and provides 1 generation per day. The Pro version removes these limits and adds export functionality.
How do I upgrade to Pro?
You can upgrade to Pro from within the app. Go to Settings and tap "Upgrade to Pro" to purchase the one-time Pro license.
Can I restore my Pro purchase on another device?
Yes! Use the "Restore Purchase" option in Settings. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID on both devices.
Does the app work offline?
Yes! All processing happens locally on your device using the bundled CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. No internet connection is required for text conversion.
Is my data stored or sent anywhere?
No. All processing is done locally on your device. Your text never leaves your device, and we don't collect any data. See our Privacy Policy for more details.
What dictionary does the app use?
Phonetic Formatter uses the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary, which is bundled with the app. This ensures accurate phonetic transcriptions and offline functionality.
Can I change between British and American pronunciation?
Currently, the app uses the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary which primarily reflects American English pronunciation. The current version does not support switching between British and American pronunciation variants. This feature may be considered for future updates.
Can I use this for commercial purposes?
Yes, you can use the app and its output for commercial purposes. However, please review our Terms of Service for complete details.
Troubleshooting
The app isn't generating phonetic transcriptions
- Make sure you've entered text in the input field
- Check that you haven't exceeded the daily limit (Free users)
- Ensure your text is in English - the app uses the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary which is designed for English
- Try restarting the app
Export isn't working
- Export is a Pro feature - make sure you have an active Pro license
- Check that you have generated phonetic results first
- Ensure you have sufficient storage space on your device
Purchase issues
- If your purchase didn't complete, try using "Restore Purchase" in Settings
- Make sure you're signed in with your Apple ID
- Check your internet connection
- For refund requests, contact Apple through your Apple ID account settings or the App Store
App crashes or freezes
